Rebecca has over 10 years of experience in community social work and policy, most recently as a school social worker for Broward County Public Schools. Rebecca's connection to the public school system runs deep, tracing back to three generations of educators in her family. Rebecca decided to mix her two passions: education and supporting children and families by becoming a social worker.

After receiving her Bachelors of Social Work at the University of Iowa, Rebecca served in the AmeriCorps. There, she worked for a girls’ empowerment program and served as a literacy tutor, where she made sure that pre-K students in an under-resourced community had the tools they needed to succeed in Kindergarten. As a social worker, Rebecca has worked with teens in crisis, helped families overcome obstacles, and advocated for policies that address systemic issues in her community. Additionally, her tenure at a shelter for teens in crisis underscored the many ways schools could be both a refuge and a challenge for students.

Recognizing the importance of social workers' impact on educational policy, Rebecca pursued her Master's Degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her work as a School Social Worker for Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia further highlighted the crucial involvement of the community and parents in education, emphasizing holistic programs centered around the student.

In her role as a social worker for Broward County Public Schools, Rebecca observed the ripple effects of decisions made by the School Board and state government. This experience as a social worker in Broward encouraged her to take her impact on students to another level. Currently, as an aide for the School Board of Broward County, she knows the necessity of staunch advocates who champion the needs of students, teachers, and the community. This understanding has motivated her to run, aiming to refocus the School Board on its primary mission: educating students.

With two of her children enrolled in Broward County Public Schools and a third in preschool, Rebecca's drive to improve the district is more than professional—it's personal. She is deeply committed to making Broward County Public Schools the pinnacle of education in Florida.
